It never fails. Someone pays Oprah to be on her show and tout some “Unbelievable New Product” and because she speaks everyone goes out and buys that product by the truckload.

Here’s a little secret… to be one of the books on Oprah’s Book club it cost’s the publisher $10,000.00 dollars minimum to have her talk about it.

If you’re willing to spend the money anyone can get on Oprah. She really is an enterprise and I don’t fault her for that, I would never. What I do want to bring to light is that she endorsed as well as Dr. Oz the Acai berry as a Super food. I won’t disagree with the anti-oxidant effects of the Acai Berry at all. That is all true.

What I have a problem with are the absolute scam diets that are coming out touting that this new Superfood is going to help you lose …up to 42 pounds…lose all the weight you want by just drinking this juice without changing anything else. It’s not going to work.

The Acai berry is chock full of Anti-oxidants and can help with ridding the body of damaging free radicals but don’t ever believe that “Berry Juice” disguised as a “Berry Diet Cleanse” is going to take off the fat that can only be burned through “sensible eating and real exercise”.

Just because Oprah is an awesome person to so many millions of people and was able to elect an African -American Senator from Illinois to the most powerful position in the free world, still doesn’t mean that you will lose weight from a “Berry Drink”.

Short intense workouts and sensible eating will do it everytime.

I’m not big on bringing politics into fitness but this financial calamity is still trying to find its bottom and hope is really all we have at this moment. Really, what is hope without action…it was a rhetorical question but I’ll answer it anyway.

WORDS, that’s all it is only words. I hope we get out of this mess…what are YOU doing about it? I hope the President has a plan…really? Why? Create your own destiny.

It’s the same way with your fitness. Hope and words won’t ever take the fat your carrying around and make it magically disappear. Although the Secret was a number one best seller I still think it was one of the biggest scams ever propagated on a “hopeful” public. I have listened to people say if I just “think” hard enough I can will myself to lose this weight.

Bullshit! and Bullshit again if you didn’t read it the first time. Thinking that you will some how develop willpower that you haven’t been able to muster in the past ten or so years and magically lose 10, 20 or 30 lbs is absolutely insane.

This “false” hope just like most of the “bailout” money that’s going to bonuses and purchases of new banks, is what you’re creating with this new will. Hope in not the answer…action is. Day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute and step by step.

An action based on consistency and dedicating at least 15 – 20 minutes a day is what will get you to your weight loss goals but action without a plan can be dangerous, exactly as the “bailout” of the banks was. Again, false hopes…basing your weight loss goals on a “Lose Weight Quick Scheme” of diet pills, diets and products that make you sh@t oil are not going to get you to your goals.

Recipe for 10 Quarts of Marinara.

105 ounces of Tomato Sauce
210 ounces of Crushed Tomatoes
2 1/2 ounces Fresh Basil
½ ounce Oregano
½ ounce Fresh Italian Parsley
3 ounces Olive Oil
1 medium Onion chopped fine
1 oz minced Fresh Garlic
1 oz minced Roasted Garlic
Just a smidge of black pepper

Pour Olive Oil into pot, Saute Fresh Basil, The garlic, pepper, Italian Parsley, Oregano and Onions until Onions become translucent. Pour in Tomato Sauce first, stir herbs into sauce.

Pour in the Crushed Tomatoes and stir from the bottom to the top of the sauce.

Let simmer for four hours stirring occasionally. The sauce should reduce and become thicker by the hour. When sauce is done it should be a deep red (not orange).

Let stand overnight to cool before you place it in jars or in the refrigerator. This lets the spices do their job and also reduces the acidity.

This recipe has been conceived over the years of trial and error, trials and tribulations and most of all, the trial of one man taking the suggestions, sneaking a peek and stealing what he could from some of the best Italian cooking influences in his life.  This sauce has a history that can be told through the character of its ingredients and the care and attention to detail of what can be proposed as organized chaos. Bene’ mangeria!
