Now that my Lose 30 in Thirty Fitness Program has gained in popularity I get asked these types of questions on a daily and sometimes twice daily basis.  I just wanted to share with you this one question that was asked of me today:

“Hi, my name is Andrea I am 19 years old and I take dance lessons over the past year I have gained 20 pounds I now weigh 170!!! and I have dance competitions in April I definitely need help I really want to purchase your weight loss kit but my mother says its not healthy to lose 30 pounds in 30 days. If you lose weight that quickly won’t you just gain more and quicker? and do you actually mail the kit to us or is it just on the computer?”

Your mother is right and she’s also wrong at the same time. If you were to lose 30 lbs in 30 days from dieting alone it would be very unhealthy. You would need to starve yourself by restricting your caloric intake and that is actually counterproductive. When you restrict your calories your body takes the fuel that’s required to keep it going from other sources, specifically your muscles…that Andrea, is not a good thing.

When your body is using muscle for fuel it is breaking down the very engine that helps to burn the fuel and that is what makes you gain weight faster. My Lose 30 in Thirty Fitness Program is a system that forces you to build the necessary muscle first, replaces your muscle were it needs to be making you more symmetrical. When you are symmetrical your body is in balance and will burn fat faster. My program is not a “Lose Weight Fast” scheme it is a really hard workout. The fatter you are the more work you have to do to take the weight off. By the same token you need to understand how to exercise efficiently so that you are not working out for 3 hours a day and wasting time.

Many of the exercises in My Lose 30 in Thirty Fitness Program burn more fat in less time. Running stairs is a good example. If you run 10 minutes of stairs you will be burning more fat than you would be running on a treadmill for 35 minutes. This is what the program does. It forces you to workout smarter and harder. Don’t kid yourself this workout is “hard” and is not for wussy’s.

So to answer your question…yes my program is much safer and healthier for you than trying to diet to lose 30 lbs in 30 days.  We have also made it very convenient to buy online and have it delivered the same way.

It’s a funny thing how low back pain can creep up on you.  As many of you know (or don’t know…and now you do) I don’t train clients anymore.  Most of my work is either done on the phone, in front of a computer or traveling to who know where.

This significant change in lack of activity has produced slight low back pain.  I work everyday but my body was used to 8-12 hours of physical activity per day and I’m now only giving it 30 minutes.  The constant sitting has created a small weakness and needs some special attention.  So I decided to go to my good friend and physical therapist Dev Chengkalath’s website and steal one of his low back relief exercise videos to show you what I’m doing to help my pain in the back.

If you have any questions regarding low back pain relief feel free to check out Dev’s website: http://devchengkalath.com

This is an exercise protocol called “The Birddog” and variations of it.

When I heard some of my liberal friends talking about how former President Bush totally screwed up science and scientific research I thought my head was going to explode because it just sounded like more “Bush” bashing.  Liberals in general love to find some way to bash on the Bush’s but this time I’m in total agreement.

Now researchers have found a virus that causes you to get fat?  How many more excuses are “researchers” going to give “fat” people to blame their size on.  Now what’s going to happen?  Are the Drug Companies going to start making some “fat vaccine”.  So that every child will need to be vaccinated against the dreaded fat disease.  Haven’t we gone a bit too far?  Now fat is in the same league as Polio and Mumps?

Now I really think my head is going to explode.  65 % of America is now fat because someone sneezed on them and gave them “Fatness”.  You’ll have people talking around the water cooler, ” I feel sorry for Bob, he caught “Fatness” from someone in the office.” “Yea that “Fatness” is really going around” “I wish that suzy would just go home, I don’t wanna catch that “Fatness”.

Here’s a couple of tips to building your immune system against the horrible “Fatness” disease:

1) Build your immune system from eating dark green leafy vegetables

2) Eat more fruit

3) Stay away from meat laced with saturated fat (you may catch it from the piece of meat)

4) Exercise at least 30 minutes a day combining resistance training and some type of aerobic training

I know what you’re saying…”Rocco you’re a friggin’ genius! You found the cure for the “fat” disease!”  I know, it’s a miracle I can stand in the same room with myself.  My brain is so big I can barely keep my head from falling of my shoulders.

Listen to me my friends, Romans and countrymen and women.  Please do not buy into this crap.  All of this “research” is a Public Relations attempt to scare or cajole people into thinking they are fat because they caught something. Now that you have been bombarded with all this news media telling you so, the drug companies can now bring to market a “pill” to manage or cure the Obesity epidemic.

Now you will never need a Personal Trainer or have to exercise ever again because “Doctors” will be the only ones to be able to cure it.  Nice try.  I have seen the stupidity that embraces bariatric surgery.  Thousands of dollars to cure your fatness only to be left with a life of literal starvation.

Oh, shit I just had another epiphany! You want to lose weight fast? Get your ass out of the the chair and stop eating garbage and maybe you won’t catch the “fatness” disease.  “Whew, that Rocco he’s a smart one.”

I’m driving up to Santa Fe yesterday and I’m taken in every bit of what I call “God’s Country”.  The majesty of where I live and my surroundings is so beautiful it’s overwhelming.  If you have never been to New Mexico or the the States that border the “Four Corners” you are truly missing a part of the great country we live in.

I come from a small town in New Jersey not more than 18,000 lived there or probably still live there very upper middle class and as a kid I lived in what was considered the slums of Ridgefield, NJ…the apartments near the park.  My brother’s and I grew up in an incredibly dysfunctional working class family. I look back and remember the feeling of being poor but the reality was that my parents made descent money it was just elusive to us.  Those are word’s for another story…  Being poor felt horrible to me and I vowed never to feel that sense of insecurity again as long as I lived…and it’s been a roller coaster ever since.  That drive and determination took me out of NJ and sent me to NYC, Cincinnati and now Albuquerque, NM… and it got me thinking.

The choices fat people are not one’s of “thrive” they are mostly about survival.  Instead of living their life in forward momentum it seems that of a life stuck in the the rhythm of insanity and circular strides, always coming back to the familiar and comfortable.  This same hold’s true for most homeless people…with one exception.  Most fat people use there job, kids and spouse as an excuse for not having the time to workout and eat sensibly.  Most homeless don’t have those worries.

Like I said it got me to thinking.  If homeless people don’t really have anything tying them down to one place then why the hell would they stay in freezing cold weather in NYC, Cincinnati, Boston and the real stupidity Chicago.  It just doesn’t make sense.  If I was homeless, I would begin walking (if I had to) to a warmer destination.  If I had to brave the winter’s in a cardboard shanty I’d opt for Florida, Texas or Louisiana.  Now I’m not saying that all the homeless should start a mass migration to warmer climates but I just wonder about the mentality.  If you could be homeless wouldn’t you want to take the stress of maybe freezing to death off your list of worries.  Maybe it’s me?

The big reason homeless people don’t move is because they don’t know any better.  Their reality is with the familiar and as shitty as the freezing cold might seem.  They still live in the comfort that it is familiar to them. The familiarity of fat and your surrounding’s of being fat are what keep you fat. Not wanting to challenge yourself to see want’s beyond the fat.  As with my recommendation to homeless people living in the frigid conditions of the Midwest and Northeast to move to warmer climates please get out of the fat comfort zone.

Make the sacrifices necessary to lose the weight, challenge yourself to see the rest of your life the way you want it, not the way someone else thinks you should live.  You really do have a choice.

In this year of change and the battle cry of “Yes, We Can” let’s take our new presidents advice and fight for what is yours…a better life out of the prison of fat.

It’s about time you lose weight fast.

I don’t mean self absorbed, pompous and unreasonable.  Those traits are reserved for spoiled little brats that suck the life out of people.   No…selfish is a bit more reasonable and much healthier for you.  Many of us worry too much about doing for others…making sure the kids get off to school…laundry’s done…groceries bought…reports are out…coffee’s made…you name it you’re doing it for someone else.

It’s time you start doing for yourself, become selfish.  Worry about the things that make you happy and content. Yes you are allowed to be happy. Don’t let anyone tell you that you need to suffer in order to get rewarded because it really doesn’t work that way.  I have suffered enough for the both of us and it didn’t get me anywhere. I believed that if i worked hard and sacrificed that I would be handsomely rewarded for my effort…really the only thing I got was frustration, failed relationships and financial flops.  Now I’m not saying that there shouldn’t be a little sacrifice when attaining certain goals but it shouldn’t consume your life.  Some sacrifice is good it builds character but it needs to benefit YOU not someone else.

I’ve been working on a TV pilot for a couple of months now and one of the participants for the show told me that he really wanted to lose weight this time.  He’s way over 300 lbs.  I explain that to lose the weight that there was going to have to be plenty of sacrifice on both of our parts.  I was willing to come train him everyday for one hour six days a week for 10 weeks. I get paid $250 an hour…do the math that’s a little bit of a sacrifice on my part.  The catch is that I had to drive to his house to train him…another half an hour both ways.  Two hours every time I trained him.  I was willing to do this because I wanted him to see the results that he needed and it was for the benefit of the TV show.

After the first week he lost the estimated eight pounds that I knew he would…awesome.  Losing weight fast isn’t hard it’s just hard work.  We were both very excited because it seemed like he was listening and would reach our goal of losing 30 lbs in thirty days easily.  Boy was I wrong!  The next week he decided it was a good idea to go out partying for the whole weekend and eat like shit…which realy isn’t that bad if you are exercising.  I come to find out that the first week he was able to take off from his second job to shoot most of the TV Pilot but the second week he had to go back to work.  Now he didn’t have the “time” to do the second workout that is required under my Lose 30 in Thirty Program.  The workout is literally 20 minutes long, not a huge sacrifice but an important component in the program. Especially if you want to lose weight fast. His excuse was that since he had to wake up early in the morning if he worked out at night he couldn’t get to sleep because he suffers from exercise induced insomnia. O.K., so what! It’s for 10 weeks and the reward is huge!

Now he’s asking me to put forth an effort of losing $500.00 a day and he can’t get a 20 minute workout done.  I illustrate this point because so many of us do this for other people and all we get is the same frustration and no reward.  I decided that week that there must be other people out there willing to do what needed to be done to escape their prison of fat.  In 10 weeks he would have lost over 60 lbs on my program and he couldn’t get his priorities straight. So I dropped him…like a hot rock.  He’s still fat and I’m $30,000 dollars richer.

Sometimes we have to look at the situation and see if that sacrifice is going to bring us the rewards we seek.  If after the second week it doesn’t look promising then cut your losses and move on.  If within the first two weeks there are red flags then there will be more red flags and eventual abandonment of the situation.  Staying in something just because you think it’s the right thing to do is not only idiotic it is life sucking.  It is your life…do things that will benefit you and when you feel happy and productive in your life than you will be a real benefit to others.

A little side note:  After I canned my TV client I was able to use those prime time hours to help fellow fitness professionals with their business branding and website marketing.  I was helping so many others and still getting a reward for the effort I was putting out.  Totally win-win.
